Hi, friends! I haven’t shared much about the importance of music in my life and in my workouts so that’s something I want to be better at.
Having the right playlist or music to run to is a game changer for my workouts and can really set the tone for the activity at hand.
For this particular playlist, I incorporated a new technique I like to call, a “musical fartlek.“
If you’re scratching you’re head like, “Bethany, what is a fartlek? It sounds like the exact opposite of something you want to experience on a run…” this Runner’s World article is here to help.
The word “fartlek” is Swedish for “speed play,” and it’s definitely emphasis on the “play.”
Essentially a fartlek run is a way to incorporate various speeds into your longer run. You don’t have to worry about keeping track of time, speed, etc. When you feel like it, you can just decide to pick up the speed when you get to the next mailbox or slow down when you get to that snuggly golden doodle on the trail ahead just begging for sweaty runner snuggles.
In a “musical fartlek,” you don’t even have to worry about picking a landmark. Your speed is dictated by the beat and intensity of the music you’re listening to.
When the bass drops, the chorus kicks in, or the speed picks up, you turn it on! When it slows down again, or if you just have a slightly slower song, keep the pace nice and easy.
The great thing about incorporating this method into your training, especially if you’ve never heard the songs before, is that it really gets you out of your head and into your body to tap in to see what you really have in you.
Below is a little over an hour of songs to run, walk or just generally work out to. This playlist (as honestly most of them probably will be) is primarily EDM and pop music, guaranteed to get your heart racing, your feet moving and your fists pumping.
Make sure to follow the playlist below so you can come back to it anytime!
If you liked this playlist or have requests for more, let me know on my Instagram post here so I can keep the tunes coming.
Thanks for stopping by.
